Troyergals Chat Thread!!!

Well, sounds like you did the right thing. :thumbsup
I'm so debating removing Hannah right now- whenever the chicks peek out from beneath her, she pecks them. :barnie What do you guys think I should do?

Just responded to that on Isabella's thread, lol! I'd leave her. Broodies do that ALL the time especially with young chicks, to get them back under. At least a day or two longer, and watch her. She'll probably do better when she's not inside in a little box, too. That can be stressful.

Okay, I'll take your word for it. ;) I've had five broodies hatch out and never had a single one peck her chicks.
The pecks aren't hard enough to injure them- at least, not yet. I'm home all day today and tomorrow, so I'll keep an eye on her.
Another thing is, I just thoroughly surveyed the chicks for the first time and look what I found:
400

Could that eye never have opened or is that the result of a peck? :hu

I couldn't count how many broodies have hatched here. Lol. Some peck, some don't, they usually stop after a while. Sounds good!

Ok, that chick doesn't look healthy to me. :/ Sav a chick or electrolytes? Open the chick's eye, gently! What does it look like? I assume the other eye is open? Is this the one that was almost dead?

Nope, this is the healthiest chick I have. It wouldn't stop racing around long enough for me to take a pic! :lau I had to take it out of the box and put it on a stuffed animal to get it to stay still. Its feathers are also unbelievably thick; It's also the biggest and the loudest! Use warm water to pry open the eye?

Haha, must just be the pic! Yeah, and I'd use a saline solution for the eye once it is open. Then every hour or so check to make sure it's open, if not repeat the process of cleaning/opening. Have you ever seen the eye open?

Okay. Nope, I don't think so- but, then again, the only time I've ever picked it up before this was last night, since it only hatched yesterday...

Ok. The other chicks are doing well?

Indeed. :D Even the one that nearly died, she(or he) is running along underneath Hannah with her siblings. ;) Thanks, thine Royal Friedness of Excellency! :P

So, Mom is teaching the younger kidz about WW2 for school. She decided to make ration booklets for food for today. Butter, an egg, cheese, bread, potatoes, chicken nuggets, and taco meat. I came up to Mom and said "Ya know how they had victory gardens and such? Well, I think it would be beneficial to our learning for me to eat all the eggs I want coz I have chickens." It worked. I ate a multi-egg omelet this morning! Joshua burnt the chicken nuggets so I just might be eating eggs for lunch too. Maybe some bread and cheese...
