I have three of these girls from Murray MacMurray, though I bought them at 8 weeks old (supposedly). When do they start laying for real? (I know what Murray MacMurray says.) What color are their combs when they are laying well? How old do you think these are?
Our girl Praline is a lovely lady. About 4 months old now, waiting for her to start laying. I let my girls out everday to forage in my yard. Every night i was having to climb the tree to get Praline out of the tree to put her into the roost for bedtime. We have owls and hawks and a multitude of critters who would love nothing more than to have chicken for a snack. You know this girl, unlike all of my different breeds could from a standstill fly straight up 9 feet into the air? After nearly falling out of the tree twice, I clipped one of her wings. Now she can only fly 5 feet into the air. It's quite amazing. I hope by the time she gets her wing back in order after molting, that she's used to roosting with everyone else. She has begrudgingly resigned herself to roosting with everyone else now; but she still tries to get into that tree at night.
