FLOWERPOT/Kelly, thanks! I will have to read up about Golden Phoenix! I've never seen a photo of any type bird that looks exactly like BJ so always wondered....When he first arrived several years ago he was with another roo that looked much the same except that that roo has a bit more flamboyant color in his tail feathers - purples, greens....They were best buddies.
Cyn, sweetshop Susan, and mtn Mary, thank you all for your very generous assessments!
There are unaesthetic spots on the property - like a neighbor's UGLY garage - just avoided taking photos that included those! My ex-DH, still a friend, came and built the run and coop. The run landscape is very uneven so it varies in height from 6 feet down to a few feet as it goes along - the top is level and covered. It's only 8 x 30 - tried to have it blend in as well as possible as it's a residential neighborhood and I am the only one in town with chickens - trying to keep a low profile! .
Cyn, now there are faces and feathers to go with the names! Annie is my first barred rock - I love to look at her. And wow, is she a spitfire! (as was Betty before her, a light chestnut colored something!). Also like Betty before her, Annie has started studiously "preening" me now..sooooo sweet! When I first adopted her a year ago she hadn't been handled and hated to be touched. She has transformed.
Susan, when I first got stone roo, I wondered whether it might bother BJ - thankfully he gave it that one good stare the day I took the photo and then has ignored it since!
Mary, thank you about the shining
JJ
