I try to go room to room, but with my kids once I clean one area they see it and attack it again. The best I can do most of the time is keep the kitchen clean and roughly run around and tidy the rest.
Clean rooms are an invite to my children to mess it up again. Then I have all my animals, especially the cat will see something I have moved to dust and its his invite to mess around with it. If I leave it there with the dust he doesn't bother with it. Then you have my husband that leaves a trail of dirty clothes and shoes throughout the house and wonders why he can never find a pair of socks. Then you have me. Everytime I do the wash, after washing, hanging out, folding and putting everyone elses clothes away, I never have the time or energy to do mine. So I have a great big basket in my room for the clean clothes that have never made it to my drawers.
So don't worry about it. A house is a home, when it is lived in and it isn't lived in unless there is some kind of mess.
