Trying to decide on ONE breed to replace my mixed flock

the reason we dont have delawares is because my wife likes black chickens and we went with the black australorp, a great dual purpose chicken. we also have cubalayas and mix colored ameraucanas. but if we could only have one breed, we would have delawares.

I do like BA's but don't know if I would want a whole flock of black chickens

If I sell hatching eggs it would only be if I have way to many laying to eat. I hate to waste eggs if someone else wants to hatch some. But I do not intend on trying to make $ or even break even. That is probably the least important part of what I would want.

I also like the look of New Hampshire Reds in all of the old pictures, but have never seen them in person with great type other than the bantams.

The color of the Delaware dosn't bother me...they will be in a large coop with a large covered run. We have WAY too many hawks.

I saw a picture somewhere of Iowa blues which look cool but can't find much info on them, or any breeders for that matter.

I love my New Hamshires too I have some breeder stock and some of Cackle's stock if you order enough when you cull you will have some good enough to use for breeders they all lay well just that some are light colored but not too pinched and some of mine have great size like I said only use the good ones for replacement stock NH are very beautiful so are Delawares and they cross well. Early spring babies are the best either start hunting for hatching eggs or get your order in soon to the hatchery.

I deff want to get hatcing eggs from a reputable breeder rather than hatchery. Hatchery birds can be nice, but I would rather get one from a breeder. I also would like to have one or two to show so hubby could show a LF bird anf hopefully get into it more. No way could I even het hin to hold one of my silkies in public! LOL! Plus I am a hatchohaulic!

If anyone has breeders that they would recommend I would love some leads!

Best results will be from someone close you can read up on the Heritage breeds thread and there are people on there who will help I'm far away and only have Delawares right now my NH roo is still too young though he doesn't think so
