My hen that I have no idea the age is very lathargic. she was given to us last year. we gave poly-vi-sol drops and crop is soft and empty, vent is soft and clean and normal color. she's just not making any effort to move or stay awake. no heavy breathing. we are literally keeping her comfy til she passes. I figured maybe check for eggbound but can't find sticky. Thank you in advance.

All of the stickies were combined into the Helpful sticky at the top. There is nothing for eggbound. If you find a good thread on this subject, please let me know so I can add it to the sticky. Thanks.

If you can provide info on the other sticky toward the top of the emergency section, folks will have more to go on to try to help your hen. So sad to hear how bad she's feeling

Include in your response info on the last time she laid an egg and how regularly she usually lays them, and hwo the quality of them has been. Include info on diet, comb color, whether they've been wormed, whether you can get her in to be checked by a vet very quickly (I had a hen this weak whose blood work was consistent with infection and/or inflammation and she immediately rallied on meds). etc etc. Include info on when you noticed that she was ill and when you noticed she was last feeling good.

Have to be away from the computer for awhile after this post but hopefully the additional info you provide will result in you getting info to help your ailing hen.

Thank you for trying to help. I haven't been back to my computer today until now. She passed away this afternoon. I thought she was getting better. She slept with my son in a basket by the couch. She had yellow liquid poops this morning. After forcing her to eat yogurt and some water, she had a somewhat chunky brown one and I thought she was improving. She walked around my kitchen all morning and did little naps. My kids loved having a "second cat". I really was about to put her back out with her friends then she aspirated and choked up yellow bile and that was it. I lost another chicken last month. If it is a pesticide than I can't find it. Is there a certain plant that they can't eat maybe? I never had my girls wormed. What would I use? I can't keep track of when my girls lay eggs. They free range and when they feel like it, they will excuse themselves from their pals and go to the nest box. She was normal in the morning of the 5th. Then by the time we put them in at night she wasn't. Her comb was pale and she didn't resist when you picked her up. She used to freak if your within 5 feet of her. Got some nasty pecks trying to take her eggs. She wasn't friendly but she was funny and always came with fork and knife in wings when ya rang the dinner bell. :gigWe'll miss her. RIP Vulcan. (She wasn't very pretty either-hence the name!)
