Trying to hang cabbage....someone help! LOL

I have a shepherd's hook for hanging planters but I use it for the Tether Cabbage. Just pound a big roofing nail into the core (I push it part way in, then turn the cabbage head over and whack the nail pretty deeply into the cabbage) then tie a loop/slip knot in some twine around the nail head.

When the chickens, ducks and geese are done with it (it's all gone or there's just a very small bit of he core left on the nail) I simply take the loop from the nail and save the nail for the next cabbage to hang.

DH took a drill and 5 seconds later it had a hole. I tied a piece of baling twine through it and hung it from the ceiling. It was just like watching them play tether ball. SO FUNNY!!!!! it only lasted about 6 hours and it was gone. love it though.

I tried hanging a hook in the cabbage yesterday. It wasn't an eye hook, but rather one that was open - I guess it was a "C" hook. Anyway, it worked out great! I think I'll get a small chain that can slip over the open part so I don't have to hang string each time.

Been doing the cabbage for about 6-7 heads and they love it. First time it took them a bit to figure it out but now when I go out with anything round they know exactly what to do. I gave a head of cauliflower on Friday and they had demolished it within the hour.

I hung a cabbage yesterday quite late, which the flock hadn't demolished before time to go into the coop.

It snowed overnight.

Here's a shot of Angus snacking on some extra-chilled Tether Cabbage this afternoon.

I've been slicing up cabbage for two days like I'm their very own gourmet chef. I'm going to try hanging one tomorrow.

When you hang it put an eye screw into the core and then tether it. My hens love this. I hung one today late in the afternoon and they demolished about half of it before going into the coop. This has cut down on my pecking problem considerably. It gives them something to keep their minds active so they aren't bored.

I have a very lose mesh string shopping bag with spaces between the strings that open at least 2 inches. I drop the cabbage into that, hang it by the handles from a nail pounded in the wall and they enjoy it. Probably takes them longer to eat the cabbage but that's okay, as it's more entertainment.
