I have a 2yo andalusian who became very sick with egg yolk peritonitis. I was able to find someone who does surgery on chickens and he cleaned her out and gave her a lupron shot to keep her from laying. It has been about 10 days and she's back in the egg box. WHAT IS GOING ON?

Being in the nest box does not necessarily mean she is in production again. She may be feeling unwell (this behavior can be the first sign we see of an unwell bird, isolating themselves,...the nest is a 'safe, confined, darker, quieter space)...given all shes go e through and the hormone shift it has, not surprising she'd be feeling off....or just following her old routine.

She was "cleaned out" did this require surgery? She's recovered that quickly to be back outside?

Being in the nesting box may be a habit. Did the vet tell you how long it takes for the Lupron to become effective?

Yes, it was surgery. It sounds odd but yes, she's back outside. She did indeed just lay an egg. She is doing terrific and is back to her normal self. I trust him completely, he's one of two vets in the state that knows this procedure.

Sure enough, she just laid.
