Will do.
Since this is a weird thread involving TSC, in one of the stores today I saw a sign on a chicken bin advertising Mystic Marans. The bin was empty. I have never heard of these nor does Hoover’s have a chicken named Mystic Maran on their website. Is there such a bird?

Edit: It seems that every time I walk into a TSC lately I walk out with a question.
Mystic? Maybe because they disappeared? Funny! :)

Oh- I think I may have solved The Mystery of the Mystic Marans! Someone had happy fingers - either the person at TSC who made the sign or the one from the hatchery who wrote out the invoice. It was probably supposed to be "Mixed" Marans - as in "What color will I be when I grow up? ... Surprise!" and someone either couldn't read or couldn't write ...

Earlier in this thread I was chastised for using the term “lynch” to describe chicks being hung by their necks to determine their gender. I was told I didn’t know the meaning of the words I was using and that I need to use less offensive words to describe the lynching of chicks. So I won’t use the term “lynch” anymore.

Having said that, I went to three more Tractor Supply stores today and didn’t see any employees choking their chickens.

I also just found a really cool feature on this site. It’s called the “ignore” button. It works very well. It’s just like changing the channel on a TV, if your offended you can ignore the offender and go on your merry way. :D
Bravo!

They’re a hybrid. Not truly a marans at all.
And it’s avtually midnight majesty marans- someone at tsc just types it wrong.
Hoover’s sells them via tsc.

I asked the employee why he is hanging the chics by the head? He replied, “That’s how you tell the boys from the girls. The girls will just hang there and the boys will struggle and try to scratch you”.

I have seen YouTube videos on this method but swear that one video says the girls just hang there but the other video said the girls will struggle. I think either way is 50/50.

I guess I am lucky in that our local farm stores have knowledgeable sales people with the chicks in the spring time. Before I ordered my chicks, I talked to the person who was responsible for ordering the chicks and checking them out when they arrive at the store. I ordered my chicks from the store with the best support salesperson. But they were all good, small, farm stores with long time employees with experience raising chickens. No TSC in my area.

Also, I ordered (10) day old pullets from the hatchery. 3 were sex linked, so those were easy to id, but the other 7 chicks were correctly identified by the hatchery and I got all 10 girls in my flock. I don't know how they sex id their chicks, but my order was 100% correct.

Ok, thanks. I saw MMM on Hoover’s and there is also a thread going here about them but nothing on a Mystic. The employee probably couldn’t spell Majesty. BYC’s thread has good reviews so far. I probably would have got a few if they were actually MMM.
