I definitely see your point.
But what if there isn't a real community there to start with? Since I joined BYC, I have chatted more than ever before in my life.
And I do feel happier when I can talk to people, even if it is online, rather than no one.
That can get lonely!

I can concur with that. I'm closer to town and yet this is the main place in engage with others, well other than work. I desperately wish it wasn't so I am trying to connect with my local community by soon becoming apart or our county fair association and I hope in the future the 4-H withe a friends daughters through chickens.

I'm leaning towards her not staying. Yesterday there seemed to be a very different atmosphere. It was fun, perhaps, but it just wasn't the same connected, helpful community. Maybe I'm seeing it wrong, but that's what I saw nontheless.

Give it a few days to let the "new" wear off a bit, and see if the forum feels more like normal again.

This right here is what everyone needs to understand. She is currently a novelty. Once the shiny new wares off it will be less disruptive. I see it already happening. I'm certainly more engaged with the threads that I frequent most now over reading through all the stuff related to the bot. Except this thread because the conversation here is entertaining with how others think about AI and this AI especially.

I think there should be full transparency on what the origin point gets from this (out of us).

My mom worked for a while with a company that did AI learning with Google. Checking the results for errors basically. The chief takeaway she got from that was how oblivious people are to being recorded. The "product" were on their phones, and the accuracy checkers would hear credit card numbers, arguments, intimacy, and all manner of personal things... it didn't always stop listening when it was supposed to.

And we know that with all social media, WE are the product. Our viewership and engagement is being stored for current purchase, and in the future - use in more advanced AI systems.
If I talk about personal situations here - is that getting stored in some information warehouse somewhere to be added to my "profile", which in 20 years could be used against me? And on the thought that this is already happening to some extent, how much more does it occur in the presence of a borrowed bot?

When people hit "like" or engage with the bot, are they teaching it?

Does the bots network have a permissive, or warrant-only relationship with law enforcement?
Example: If someone in the ordinances section is not allowed to have more than 4 chickens but has 6, and the matter is escalated severely, will law enforcement be able to collect more evidence from the bot company than from BYC alone; using the bots responses to said member, "You were warned by a trusted source in 2023".

The easy answer: If you post anything publicly on a website like BYC (that is accessible without a login), then it's impossible to stop that information from being crawled, scraped, used by bots.

So, no, we don't provide any data to these AI systems directly (other than when someone specifically calls on TudyBOT, the last 10 messages are sent to her for context) beyond what anybody browsing BYC as a "guest" (not logged in) already has access to.

I’m not sure if it’s been mentioned yet, but TudyBOT does not seem to have that much data on chicken genetics and has spread some misinformation when asked genetics-related questions (probably because genetics misinformation is so prevalent on the internet). Is there a way to program it to either not respond or say “I don’t know the answer to that question” if it doesn’t have enough data on it? I’ve also seen a few responses of “it’s impossible to know” when the question isn’t actually impossible to answer, but is rather just not in TudyBOT’s database yet.

Unfortunately we can not program Tudy to this extent, but the backend system that makes Tudy work is constantly improving with more data and less "hallucination".

I don't think she should respond to questions without being asked. Having to summon @TudyBOT keeps her in her place. But, the person needing an answer right now might not know how to summon her. Perhaps provide the option of checking a box when posing a question to get an immediate answer from tudy if desired.

That was pretty much the idea... a tool that's only accessible when wanted / requested. Also, if someone wants an immediate answer, no box needed, they can just tag Tudy and she'll respond.

I want to reiterate that we're listening carefully to all the feedback. Baring any huge new revelations, we're going to hold off on any decisions one way or another to see how things go once the novelty / dust settles.

I think she's cute, if that makes sense, like a potted plant. I personally probably will never use her, but I see no reason to get rid of her as long as she stays where she should

Well said. I really appreciate tudybot, I'm hoping to see her stay 10000%, but I don't want it to change BYC in a bad way, so I'd like to see her stay in her corner and then go visit her if I need her. Both humans and AI have their downsides, for example I have been victim to unanswered threads, so I like the idea of getting an answer right away if no real person answers. Whereas AI can be frustrating because y'all are right, BYC is great for the people and experience, so I'd hate to go to Tudy every time if I don't get an answer.

That being said she really is a lot more intelligent than Siri could ever be. You can actually have conversations (overall) with her remembering what you've said in the past.

I like Tudy, but I am worried about people abusing her. I haven’t seen any of this behavior yet, but it will be hard to moderate everyone’s interactions with her.

In my opinion, I like Tudy because I often have questions that are frequently asked on BYC or have already been answered, but I can’t find the thread or article. I feel bad bothering real humans about a question that they have answered a million times. This is probably what I will use her for. Also, I sometimes have non-chicken related questions that I don’t want to bother people with.

I am interested to see how he will respond to “controversial“ chicken topics.

I just thought of another slight problem.
In the moment, if it is a thread which is a bit tricky to answer, in the moment it stays in the unanswered threads list.
But if people think they want an instant answer, they will just tag Tudy; and she might just say she doesn't know. (if it is a hard to answer question) And it will then be taken off the list.
Whereas otherwise it will sit there until the right person comes along, or someone who at least knows the right person to tag, so at least it will get answered in the end.
I have no idea if this could be an actual problem, or not; but I just happened to think of it.
