TudyBOT Feedback & Discussion Thread

Pics
I just thought of another slight problem.
In the moment, if it is a thread which is a bit tricky to answer, in the moment it stays in the unanswered threads list.
But if people think they want an instant answer, they will just tag Tudy; and she might just say she doesn't know. (if it is a hard to answer question) And it will then be taken off the list.
Whereas otherwise it will sit there until the right person comes along, or someone who at least knows the right person to tag, so at least it will get answered in the end.
I have no idea if this could be an actual problem, or not; but I just happened to think of it.
You can't tag Tudy, you have to go to her own section to ask her specifically. The rest of the forum is just as it has always been, answered only by people.

It's too dumb to understand that niacin is vitamin B3.
Apparently not

Me too! Are you worried that you'll be forced to talk to a robot, or that if there's a robot in the conversation it will make you uncomfortable?
I'm not worried by this.
What do you do when there's a human member in a thread you don't care for?
Nothing.
However, if said member makes a point that I disagree with then I'll argue the point if I feel strongly about the subject.
Does that member also cause you to question being here or engaging in the thread?
No single member causes me to question being here or engaging in a thread. The overall tone of the site might make me wonder if I'm in the right place with my particular viewpoint.

I'm curious as to what advantage you and those who are in favour of the bot think the bot will bring to the site.

If a person had answered this question and been presented with a picture of the bird those with some experience might make a reasonable guess at what could be wrong with the chicken. TB just can't do this.

It's not like we're swapping humans for bots, we're just adding a bot to assist those who want it's quick reply

Yes there are limitations. Image recognition is not in her programming.

The human making a "reasonable guess" as to what is wrong with the chicken could be wrong as well. The questions about behavior and how they move around would still need asked and answered.

Everything has limitations.

They could, but the chances of a human with some experience of dealing with the particular issue has a much higher chance of giving usefull response having been presented with a clear picture.

I'm particularly interested in what those who are for the bot believe the bot can bring to BYC.
So far speed of response is one attribute.
Available 24/7 is another.
I've seen no evidence so far that intelligent response is likely or accuracy of information.

Basically what is the purpose of the bot on BYC?
Is it here for fun?
Is it here for us the humans to learn from?
Is it here so that it can learn to be the number one source of AI information on chicken matters and who will benefit from this?

Yes human eyes on a picture of a hen hunched over, fluffed up, looking droopy can absolutely help diagnose issues. There would still be questions.

I am also curious as to what the bot brings.
Yes speed and availability in answering is great.
Accuracy is not 100% (neither are human answers).

It does learn from us actually. I asked it a couple questions regarding niacin and without any indication for several pages it answered the first question correctly.

Later I did the post a pic and asked "is my chicken sick".
I got the expected response listing signs of illness.
Then I posted some super unclear symptoms and yes the bot was able to answer. Clearly it is programmed NOT to recommend treatments but the answer was as accurate as many human answers.

 It's here to help in whatever capacity it's programming allows.
