tuhis doesn't look like ablack austrolorp!

Does he always carry that tail out and down like that? A Langshan should have an arch to the back with the tail carried high.

Still looks like a Brahma Austrlorp mix to me.

Hi there jaye gray

I came across your thread while lurking and I am by no means an expert on chicken breeds but wanted to respond.

When I saw the original chick photo from 3 weeks ago, the feathering of the outer toe only made me think possibly Langshan.

In the more recent photos though, I agree with 21hens-incharge that the tail does not look Langshan and a Brahma/Australorp mix would be my thoughts also.

On gender, I am not convinced either way so that is another reason I am subscribing because I am interested to see what (s)he proves to be

Thank you for your input, i sincerely mean that. I guess mostly because i keep digging into different breeds and their looks between hen and roo and it seems that unless you know the breed you can't really be sure of the sex, as what has the cone and waddle of a rooster of one strongly looks like a hen of another. Then mixed breeds would be even more confusing. Same with stance/posture.and since pointed feathers at the tail base arn't noticable yet, what is it that people see that makes them think roo? So thanks. As far as the tai goes its ofter carried upright but there is a break not the u shape profile. Your post made me think maybe i ehould wait a few weeks more before i make my decision to return him, to give it time to definatly declare itself she/he.

So after dropping him off i returned to my home with an additional buff Orpington, partridge rock and my original choice of a black austrolorp. To add to my americana, barred rock, BSL ,& RSL X2. Just in case there's another roo in the mix. I did notice bumps on the back of the BR's legs......spurs starting??????

I would not worry about the bumps on the legs. My Hamburgs ALL have spurs and all lay well.
I have other breeds that have the large bump with no actual spur. All my chickens are hens.
The chicken in my avatar is a splash hamburg and she has 2 inch spurs.
