TULSA area Cluckers

When is the auction in inola? I only have 4 hens now, and I could use anoth 4-6.
They are still giving me 3 or 4 eggs everyday. RSLs are amazing. If there are any at an auction, you better believe I'll be bidding on them.
Rinda, have you candled and of your FBCMs yet?

Yep!

Go into lockdown tomorrow. I think we bought 2 dozen eggs or so and I've only had to pull out 2 duds. Everyone else was jumping and wiggling! We will be keeping the very darkest eggs to add to our flock and selling the rest.

And Daisy our FBCM we've had since June FINALLY started laying- and her eggs are SO nice and dark! Couldn't wait for them to get a bit bigger- just had to stick a few in the incubator last week since she's been confined with her rooster for a while now. Not supposed to be hatching anymore until January but I just couldn't help myself! ;)

Is anyone at the auction today? I have way too much to do at home so I couldn't make it. Maybe I'll catch the wagnor county one if it is the next auction.

Rinda- how many chicks will your brooder stack hold? You sound like you're about to have a ton of birds.

When you start thinning out your FCBM roos, let me know please. I had a FBCM roo I got at an auction that I bred to my Ameracuanas in hopes of some decent feather legged olive eggers. I got one pullet with very light leg feathering out of him (and she is solid white, go figure) but had to get rid of him because he was so stinkin mean. Killed a couple of my hens and gashed me open on the foot one day. I am really wanting to get back on my feather legged olive egger project this time using my Cream Legbars (when they start laying) and a FBCM roo.
Good, I'm assuming you got yours from Poco Pollo? My two pair from her are doing well. Out in the big split coop on the "baby" side with our isbars and french black coppers that are growing up. The Isbars are coming along well, although I REALLY wish the two oldest weren't both roosters! :/ But the younger set appear to all be pullets- 3 of them, so I can't complain too much! Will definitely post when we have some available! The Sheriff sent me one last batch of Isbar eggs and out of 15 or so eggs I ended up with 2 chicks that hatched over Thanksgiving, a blue and a black. Still no splash. But late spring next year we can cross blue with blue and get our own splashes hopefully!

First week of December we will have a big batch of EE chicks and FBCM chicks hatching out. The FBCM are hatching eggs we got from some one local. We are going to pick through what we want and sell the rest- hoping for lots of feather legged ones!

LOL Yes we do have quite a few in lockdown NOW.... it was interesting getting them set because I had to put dividers into the hatch tray so they wouldn't mix as they were hatching!

That would be a mess! Some of the eggs we are hatching for a lady in Claremore, we are splitting the hatch. So half of those will go right away. The rest I hope we can hurry and sell before Christmas. We try to pre-sell at least some so I do have some people waiting in the wings for chicks.

We are estimating our brooders will hold about 60 chicks each up to about 1 1/2 or 2 weeks old. It would be crowded at that point but we aim to sell most of our chicks as day-olds since we don't have the land or pens to raise any more than what we hope to select our future breeders from. Right now they are nearly empty, we have four "keeper" chicks in there 2 EE and 2 Isbar and a small batch of 8 ees for a friend who doesn't have a brooder. They will be fully feathered by the end of the week or maybe next and then they can go to their new home.

Spunkychicken, yes I will post here when we are ready to get rid of a FBCM rooster. We have one right now that is a decent specimen, and two more growing out. One of the babies is a sweetheart who has decided I am his momma. Never thought of any of our chickens as "snuggly" before him- but he sure is!

HOPING he grows out with good color and I will get to keep him. If they do not better him than he will stay and they will go. We are trying to breed to SOP.

Speaking of extra roosters... we will have an extra Isbar rooster once we decide which one is staying and which one is going. I have a pretty good idea but want to wait a little longer to be sure. Do some research on them- they are gorgeous (and $$$!) birds. They are about 3 months old right now. We will decide in about a month which one we are keeping and then we will sell the extra. We also have a handicapped Isbar pullet- trying some vitamin treatments right now but if that doesn't fix her she will need a special home. She will never be able to roost if it isn't a vitamin deficiency- constant muscle tremors and can't stand up fully. She's about 2 months old now.

3 out so far from the big batch due tomorrow!

Here's our excitement for the day:

A truck took out the telephone pole on the corner of our property and then traveled all the way until it hit our house. Took out: front fence, side yard fence and gate, one fruit tree, my mother's day rosebush from a few years ago, coldbox/greenhouse box, and the rock flowerbed. Plus minor damage to the house. He was going WAY too fast (our street connects the highway and a major street, and even though the speed limit is 30, BIG trucks often take it at 50 or more), and there may have been drugs or alcohol involved. Luckily (for us anyway LOL) he was in a company vehicle and they are bending over backward to take care of this, and MOST luckily none of my kids were out playing in the yard at the time. The truck ended up right where the kids' playground is usually at. I think he backed off the flowerbed thinking he would drive away, but luckily I heard it and ran out to see what the commotion was. Besides, he had our chain link fence wrapped around his tires. He wasn't going anywhere but the police escort for a drug test.

Hatch day is here, hooray! And the Black Copper Maran hatching eggs we bought are all coming out with feathered legs- double hooray!

Lots of EEs, some FBCM, and a few Ameraucanas available (not from our stock)- come on you know your kids want chicks for Christmas!

Ok. I have done some research. Thinking I am very interested in the extra Isbar roo that you will be getting rid of. Inbox me with the price you will be asking for him.

The EEs are black Ameraucana rooster over RIR and black australorp hens. Very cute little things. I have a few EEs from someone else's eggs I will have to ask what combos she used. The Ameraucanas are from her chickens, too. greenish blue eggs but not sure what color her stock are, I will ask her tomorrow when I take her share of the chicks back to her. None of them have popped out yet. I just LOVE hatch day!

It is amazing the color variations we are getting from RIR X Ameraucana.
