Are you talking to me? I have a few chicks for sale, mostly unsexed black Ameraucanas, but other than that I have trimmed my stock down and stopped hatching for the most part in preparation for a move. I'd like the extras gone, so they are $5 each or $4 each if you take 5 or more. There is still enough time for them to feather out before the cold gets here, as long as they get a light bulb at night for the next few weeks.

Happy to find a more local thread. I feel I live in the metrapolitian area of Tulsa trade chickens with folks from Tulsa and the surrounding area. Nowata/Vinita is how I list myself on Craigs List. Silkies,Nankins are in my pens right now I traded my flock of Americanas for Goats recently will start a new flock in the spring. Good to make new friends and see some old.

If the membrane is still intact I usually go ahead and eat it within a couple of days.

Cathiesue, I saw you on the thread for Sweedish flowers. Do you breed your own SF chickens? I am really wanting to get a pair hopefully this spring.

Heres a question for you all. What auctions/sales are the best to go to around here? I sure am starting late in the year for chickens!!!

We did it guys!!!! The first meeting of the Rogers County 4H Poultry Club is at 7PM on Thursday 8/15/2013! Feel free to bring your children who show an interest in the poultry world that are ages 5 and up to 18! It will be at the 4H building in Claremore, OK across from the El Azteca on HWY 20 near the Expo Center.

Your kids will learn the breed recognition and traits, some minor genetics, how to feed, water, build pens/coops. Biosecurity, prepping for shoe and for the older kids with written permission from parents, how to process birds in a humane manner for consumption. Kids will be welcome to share information they have learned about their birds since the last meeting and do presentations. This will be a learning experience for myself as well however if you are interested in learning or would like your child to gain some valuable information, please let me know. I'm hoping to meet on Thursdays around 7PM according to the 4H guidelines. FFA members are welcome.

I know it is VERY late on this but does the 4H poultry club accept new members this late in the year? My daughter has shown interest in showing and I told her she needs to learn to care for her show birds first (and we need to get them haha). Do you know if they accept Lavender Orpingtons for show? I had seen a few threads that argued about the color but my daughter saw some online and really fell in love. Hope they do...
Anyway I am so VERY new to the chicklen world but I am trying to learn all I can so I can not only care for my chickens properly but pass the info down to my children. I would also love to get to know others in the Rogers area who have chickens of their own!

One warning- Rogers County is NOT chicken friendly. This is why I am moving to Coweta, we close on our new house on Monday. As long as there are no complaints, you will be fine. If a neighbor complains to the city or county, be prepared for a nasty letter from the zoning folks telling you poultry is illegal on residentially zoned lots and threatening to send animal control to seize your chickens if you don't comply. That's my experience. East and north of Claremore you are fine, except down in Inola. I was just flabbergasted to learn this. Even the city of Tulsa allows 5 or 6 hens. So be sure you are on good terms with your neighbors, especially if you plan to have a rooster.

I'm getting there with my SFH. it takes time. I've lost quite a few birds during my just a beginner phase. I'm going to have eggs soon but I don't have agood place to hatch and brood in the winter. I love my SFH.
