TULSA area Cluckers

Please do! You're welcome to come by and see the coop we built. And there are actually a lot of chicken owners in our area. Getting very popular!

According to the ordinances, yes- free range would technically be illegal. However, I have found that as long as your neighbors are comfortable with them- I haven't met anyone that is bothered by it yet- then you won't have any issues. Our birds are free ranged all day long. They come down early in the morning and put themselves to bed every night at dusk. We have had zero issues with predators and I know there are foxes, raccoons, etc in the area but as I said before, we have three dogs with constant access to the backyard via a doggy door and I think thats the main reason we have been so fortunate.

I will definitely have to do that when I don't have to depend on my mom to drive me around. I'm staying with her in Owasso while my broken right femur heals so I hate to ask her to drive me into Tulsa more than I absolutely have to.

Ok, another question for you. Do the chickens destroy your yard when they're out? I mean make a bunch of holes, dig down and bare tree roots, poop everywhere so you can't walk in the yard, etc? Or are 6 chickens too few to do all that?

The area near the coop entrance will be bare of grass and they will make a few dust bathing spots, probably in a flowerbed if you don't block access. Other then that your yard will be fine. If you have a dog you won't have trouble with chicken poop- they eat it if they can find it. Blech!

Wow... Well, I've always wanted a German Shepherd pup and maybe this would be the right time to get one - when I get some chicks and she can learn to be an LGD. Not sure though. Chickens themselves are a pretty big commitment but NOTHING compared to an intelligent dog... We'll see.
