Thank you. There's no way I can go to church now... i've been bawling my eyes out... over a chicken! But once you have a chicken, they're kinda like a dog, you know? You get attached to em.

So sorry to hear the sad news...silly birds, why do we get attached to them? It sure sounds like you gave her the best chance you could, and certainly saved her from an awful place before that. She had a good life when she died. Well done.

so sorry to hear about your hen, so sad, but so sweet that the other girls were surrounding her.

i have a sick hen right now, also a buff orp. we've had her since she was a baby and now she's 2.5 years. we love our buff orps and I might be making the decision tomorrow to have juliet euthanized. the vet said i can't stay with her which bothers me. they said they might not be able to find the vein right away. my friend who is a vet is away and would usually do this for me, i bet she could find the vein right away. she's awesome! i miss my birds sooo much when they go. i've been crying holding her and she speaks back to me so softly, like she knows i'm trying to help. i gave her hardboiled eggs and yogurt this morning in my lap and she ate it all up.

she started to walk in an arc like pattern yesterday and today, her legs are buckling beneath her. she is going through a very hard molt right now. i wonder if it could be mareks and it's rearing it's ugly head because she's stressed. or she could eaten something bad somewhere. who knows but it really stinks when you want to help but can't.

i'm heartbroken and can't concentrate on anything. i understand your sadness completely, chickens are like dogs to me too. i never thought i would get so attached but i am. makes me second guess having them sometimes.
