Turkey are gone *update*graphic pics***

That was no doubt a dog attack! I have seen it too many times unfortunitally. A cyote would have taken off the body and you wouldn't have found that carcus. It would have eaten everything. I have seen dog attacks on turkeys that looked the exact same with the breast eaten. I would get a great pyrenees or other LSG dog. They are worth their weight in gold. After I got a pyrenees, I only ever lost 1 guinea to a hawk but the dog never let the hawk have its kill. The dog never let it happen again and the hawk moved down the road and started killing my neighbors birds. I lost my dog 3 weeks ago today and have lost 2 Toms since he has been gone. I have 2 new pups that can't grow fast enough for me. Sorry for your loss and the dogs will be back. If you have access to a large live trap, put it in the pen on the other side of the opening and wire it to the fence where there is no other way in. Stick a chicken in the pen for live bait and wait for the dog to return. If you dont have a trap then call your county and se if they will provide one. Even in most rural areas they do have some kind of animal controll and have a trap to lend.

So sorry for your loss! And yes, I thought dog as soon as I saw it. I'm fostering a 20 pound lab mix that did that to my chain link in a matter of an hour.

If it were me, I would SSS. But i know you said they run off so it would be hard. Report it to the local police at the very least. There could be others who are having this problem, and you may be able to find out who ownes them and charge them accordingly.

I am fortunate that my own dogs do not try and get in the pens of my birds, but will keep anything that is NOT supposed to be in my yard out. I've only lost 2 birds to hawks, and that was before I covered the run.

Unfortunately we haven't had much time to take care of business. I'm sure the dogs have been back and we just haven't seen them.

As far as calling the police, they will just remind us that we have the right to protect our stock. We have no animal control or the like in this county. Hubby watches for them during the day. This will work until he starts work in the next couple of weeks. I will be getting more turk eggs at the April swap. DH says that he will figure out a way to put electric wire on the kennel when we are ready to put the birds in their digs. Pred attacks are heartbreaking enough, dog attacks make me beyond mad. There is no reason for someone else's irresponsibility to have to cost me heartbreak and money.

mmadie's mom, interview went great we are waiting on all the paperwork to get an official start date. He just has to get thru all the background checks. Thanks for the kind thoughts.

I was wondering when I read the part about starting work... and then I got to the last little note. Great!

I am so sorry. I have been through the same thing. I can understand once, dogs getting out... but not more than that. My dog is NEVER without supervision. I have had every predator in the book come and feast on my birds and the only ones I truly resent are the neighbors dogs.

Those should be penned and watched. Wild animals, well that is my issue. And they don't invade secure pens like uncontrolled dogs do. They take one and go. Dogs just ravage and leave the bodies behind. Wasteful.

Problem with chain link is it is usually just attached with a wire every couple feet. Seen dogs take out the bottom like that easily. A vet I know sinks his into the wet concrete for runs so they can't dig out. Cheapest thing is a solar charger. About 100$ I used one for 6 years on the orginal battery. Run low and high wires. Very few animals come back for a second shock.
