Turkey Bacon...Its JUST Not Right!

I don't. There is a little countertop tofu maker that you put in the beans and water (like a coffee machine with a built in grinder) and it does the rest. Since i'm in Ca, I can get fresh tofu at the little korean market the next town over. It's a bit like making tortillias, yes I can do it, but instead I buy it fresh locally. (when we move out of SoCal i'll most likely end up making both at home, but for right now the local shops are good).

Take advantage of what you have.

Exactly. i'm not exactly sure what on the "normal midwest diet" i'll enjoy eating. At least a pickle is a pickle, but i can't stand sausages, beer or deep fried anything.

I've never tried it, but the last time I went to Malaysia they had "Halal Bacon"..... since they cannot eat pork I assume it was made from chicken or something like that

Hey, I just interviewed for a job doing related stuff! I think telling them I make my own soap and have rendered my own tallow made a positive impression during the interview!

Where are you moving? You may be surprised. We lived in IN for several years while my dh was in grad school, and we could get fresh tofu.

There are Korean markets everywhere now, small cities as well as large. If you're moving to a small town, not a small or big city, that's another story.

But I do occasionally eat it on a Starbucks breakfast sandwich.

As for the tofu, I cube it up and put it in my homemade spaghetti sauce. I also use meat in the sauce for flavor. Everyone seems to like it except for my DS. He will eat it but he would rather not have the tofu in the sauce.
