Turkey chic mortality rate

I did everything you said except adding the sugar and vinegar to the water. The ones that made it (11 out of 16) were just fine and putting on wing feathers nicely and trying to jump. Cute stuff.

I have ordered three times from McMurray with no DOA's. First time with Meyer and I am well pleased. McMurray is good, but Meyer is super friendly to work with, great customer service (credited account for all my losses), etc. McMurray has a live arrive policy too, but it sucks to wait soo long for that to happen. Could have been a issue anywhere in transit, its annoying

If they were flat ones they could have gotten cold and hudded so much the ones on the bottom suffocated and were then smashed.
I have had that with chickens.

I used Mc Murray too, for chicks. Had wonderful results. 100%. However, I picked them up from the hatchery, did not have them shipped. Also, my BR poults were from Welp Hatchery. I also picked them up from the feed store. Again, 100% success. I think the shipping might be most of the problem. This year I am hatching my own chicks and poults, using broody hens. So far, so good.

another trick..always remember to put shinny marbles into there feeders and waters to attract them to the food and water.

older pic of my own hatched wild eastern turkeys and hatched with silkie chicks with marbles in the water and feeder, kept on course paper towel for the first 3-4 days so they dont eat bedding..

I had problems with high mortality rates last year. Failed to separate the geese, turkeys and chickens. The turkeys started dieing in a few days. Lost 15 of 23.
Separated the next batch and didn't loose a single one.
This year I am hatching my own. See how that goes.
I use Estes hatchery in Springfiled MIssouri.

Of course I don't have them shipped, but they have always been great to me.

Is that a bathtub you are raising them in? And what's the white thing stuck to the side? air freshener or baby monitor?

Yup it is a garden tube with jets in.. cleaned up nicely after brooding in it a few days...it was our the spare bath room..

Now I'm glad I couldn't get any turkeys shipped, I had ordered some but they were not available when the chicks were so we canciled the poults. I bought some at the local feed store. I told them I wanted 4 and they said I should buy 6 due to losses. Well that was 3 weeks ago and I still have 6 turkeys.

Not sure my pen will be big enough for 6. There was a runt that required lots of attention, a separate box and heatingpad. He is still half the size as the others but back in with them and doing fine.

Not sure why local bought ones seem to do better, because the feed store has them shipped in too. They said they do better in large numbers, so maybe that's it.
