Thanks, everyone! When we thought it was a pheasant, we knew that we were likely breaking the law in keeping him, but we couldn’t in good conscience just leave him outside to be eaten. He showed up the evening of July 3, and even if we had been able to find a rehab center or DNR resources, it was a long holiday weekend, and we were admittedly caught off guard.
I’ll look into options for him, but I absolutely will not deliver him to a turkey farm to be raised for slaughter, even if that means breaking the law. In the meantime, I’m just trying to figure out how to provide the best quality of life for him.
