Thanks Haunted55,
I'll check them out. Most places only offer shrink bags to hold up to 30 pounders, tops. I will probably need smaller sizes too, but right now, my 2 big 34 and 35 pound guys are in the freezer double wrapped in untreated garbage bags, for very short term storage until I can find bags for turkeys over 30 # or they will have to be cooked. I found a local bag company in New Orleans, someone sent me the phone number to, that I will call on Monday, but they probably will require me to buy a case at a time, since they make the bags there, unless they have some over-runs or mis-prints to get rid of. When I owned a marina, on Grand Isle, that's how I bought my ice bags. I got them really cheap! I still have some really10 pound ice bags with letters backwards that I freeze chickens and ducks in. I also buy egg cartons like that for my eating egg customers. Thanks !

Cellie, I had a problem too , so I'm eagerly looking at responses to your question. THe bags my birds where in from the butcher were large enough for the 35# dressed bird but not heavy weight, easily tearing the plastic. I rebagged the 8 into white trash bags. NOT very pretty. LOL So thanks for asking this question. :)
I actually need bigger bags than he carries as well. What his wife told me they did one year was wrap the birds in freezer paper and then go round and round with plastic wrap until it's all covered. I've got some big birds I've got to do and this will probably be what I will do in the end. I don't think even one of mine will dress below 40 lbs.. Hope this helps you both.

Well folks, we will be facing the same problem this year if we are going to freeze any of these 35# Hollands, till Christmas and New years ! I want to order early before I get stuck, last year trying to order after every place ran out the really extra large size bags. Where are you guys buying your bags that will let you freeze for a longer time than trash bags will, and will make a nice presentation on the turkeys you are processing to sell?

I did and will be getting some for turkey parts and smaller turkeys, but they don't have any to fit my 35 pounders shone. I emailed them, but as of et didn
t get an answer. I thought they had some last year bigger?

Getting the right size for the largest turkeys has not been in the cards for me-- processer used a large enough bag but the mil thickness was not enough to carry the bagged turkey by the bag-- it tore VERY easily. I resorted to using white trash bags. Not the nicest presentation, but hey it solved the most immediate problem. I suspect the white bags are not food grade either. .

I was able to stuff 8lb 3oz chicken in the ones that are for 6lb birds, so it might be worth trying a few of the 30lb bags. You may get lucky and stuff a 35lb bird in it. If it does work, you may just need 4 hands to get it done.
I made the PVC drying rack for butchering chickens, and was able to slide the bag down over the chicken. (Similar to this one http://poultryshrinkbags.blogspot.com/2011/06/its-downright-easy-to-shrink-bag.html Scroll part way down the page.)

I did not glue the caps on the tops, so I can remove them and slide a 2" PVC pipe over the 1 1/2" pipe for doing turkeys. (The PVC pipe needed to be much longer for turkeys, and I thought this was the best option.) Another option would be to make the rack using both 1 1/2" and 2" PVC pipe, so you would have the ability to pick with pipe best fit the bird you were doing at the moment.
