So I have a bronze turkey who is the only one in my flock of 40 chickens. ( i learned my lesson and will get more than 1 next time). well, it is a tom and he is constantly flaring out and trying to woo the wild turkeys that hang out by our creek. When he flares out the other chickens all peck his hind side. well, it has gotten bad enough that this morning i went out to give treats and noticed that he has a gaping hole on his hind side, above the vent, that is bloody and tender to say the least. I have read on other threads that you can coat it with blue kote, the main question I have is can you do that when the wound is so fleshy and raw?
I need to do something or it is gonna spiral into a pecking frenzy that may not be recoverable from.
please help. I need advice. this is my first year with a turkey and don't really know what I am to do about this.

Thank you in advance!

You need to separate him from the others ASAP if you haven't already done so. Before you coat it make sure that you clean it out and put an antiseptic on it. You should be able to use the blue kote on the wound. Be sure to use gloves and wash your hands as well (common sense).

well, i can't separate him because he is too big for our panic room. but i have been cleaning him with an all natural antiseptic and then put some no-pick lotion on him. He is slowly healing and they have started plucking feathers off his back now. so it may be a never ending cycle. poor bird.
thank you for your help.
