I totally know how you feel lol, This year I'm hatching chickens, Emus, turkeys, and peafowl, so, yeah. What have i gotten myself into??!! lol.Turns out I'm hatching Red Ranger chickens, Narragensett turkeys, Emus and mixed breed geese this season! Oh what have I gotten myself into?!?!?!
OMG. My incubator is busting at the seems! My egg trays hold 48 eggs each (minus 2 for the 'bumpers' I put on them so they don't slide back and forth on the racks) and all 6 are FULL. I may have to start setting in the darn hatcher! Oh, this wouldn't be an issue if I didn't have 100+ eggs on the way between today and Wednesday! I should have my white midget turkey eggs tomorrow... No idea where I am putting them yet.

I already have my peafowl eggs on order.. along with more mandarin eggs... lol good thing I have extra incubators
It's nice to know I'm not alone in the hatching craziness!
Do most of you hatch your own eggs or buy eggs from outside sources? I'm a little leary about mail order eggs. But it seems like it would be a good way to bring in other breeds and blood lines.
oh that's an easy fix... just get another incubator! (I highly recommend homemade coolerbators)
who?.. me an enabler?... NAH...NEVAR!

Sometimes it's the only way to get the breed or the line you want. It's nice to know I'm not alone in the hatching craziness!

Quote: THe white embyo must have been on the bottom then-- another reason I just put them in the incubator to test for fertility. Fertilized and not fertilized are white spots, the fertilized one looks like a bulls eye, with concentric white and clear rings. THe embryo is actually 24 hours old by the time it is laid. THat changes the visual identification of fertilized, or not fertilized.
I already dropped that bomb on my husband. Anyone want Ameraucana eggs or turkey eggs later on? I'm asking because I need to raise over $700 for a new Sportsman... Donations accepted, too! LOL!
I buy a few dozen (haha... a few) to bring in new blood or new varieties I don't already have. This is my version of gambling (will they hatch, or won't they?) and I actually quite enjoy it. For the most part, I hatch my own, though. This year, not including the unexpected turkey and quail eggs, my limit was 10 dozen outside chicken eggs and I actually stayed within that limit!
