Turkey Talk for 2014

Wow. What a night with our Tom, Oreo! Went out at lockup time and he was limping, more like hopping on 1 leg. Well I just got him this Spring as a 2 yr old and he's never been messed with much by humans, so catching him was CRAZY & very distressing for him. We looked and felt of his foot and leg and only found a small area with with MAY have been some dried blood. I carried him up to the house for better lighting, wrapped him in a towel, laid him on his back and kept searching myself, didn't trust DH opinion. Lol cleaned his foot, and blue koted it really well. But I honestly still don't know what is wrong!

I'd guess he weighs like 30lbs, & where he normally roosts is only about 3 ft off the ground. I noticed a few nights ago he was sleeping on the ground infront of the nest that my broody & her babies sleep in. Just thought he was being protective. I am soo worried now that he has an infection or something, although it appears completely fine!

I have a gander who was stepped on by a donkey. There is some tendon damage to the joint. Wrap it (not too tight) with vet wrap. You can get it at Tractor Supply or the CoOp in the horse section. By the way if you are ever needing to wrap your own ankle/wrist it is cheaper to buy it there in the bright colors than paying nearly 2x the amount for the exact same but flesh colored human wrap at the Pharmacy.

My turkey and peahens will lay in the same nest. There are 3 turkey hens and 4 peahens in my big flight pen with the boys. I gather eggs every night, last night from under the royal palm hen I had 3 turkey eggs, 2 pea eggs and three wooden eggs. She is an egg hog!!

He is still hobbling a little, but not hopping. Meaning he's bearing a little weight. Lol

I have some pink zebra striped. Lol He's a little better. I'll watch him and see how he is tomorrow. He's VERY hard to catch, so I plan to wait and see 1st. If not even better tomorrow, I'll wrap him up and hope he doesn't get a complex. LMBO!
