Turkey Talk for 2014

Thank you! I would love to get more if I can figure out what he is.

I know who could probably tell you. The folks from Sandhill. They have a large selection on heritage turkeys and they also are doing some experimental breeding to map out the color genetics of turkeys so if yours is a crossbred they should be able to spot it and tell you what is crossed.

From a local breeder. Actually the breeder was out of town and their grandmother let me pick what I wanted from their stock. I picked mostly Royal Palms but these were bigger and I loved the light buff coloring. Since then I can't find the information on the breeder.

Is it possible to contact that local breeder and ask what other varieties or possible crosses they have?

That's a great idea!

Mine have been mynching the hay I tiss in fir the goats since there's no grass right now.

I thought about doing that too but get nervous because Im afraid they could get an impacted crop, should I be concerned about that or just toss some in?

I use an improvised hay feeder so they have to pick out a strand at a time instead of gobbling big chunks. Jusr make sure they have access to grit or soil so they can find theur own grit & they will be fine.
Improvised hay feeder:
I use a feed sack wuth slits cut in it -& tape the edges of the slits. Other ideas would be a mesh potatoe or onion bag, a wire hanging kitchen basket, or anything else with small openings they can pick through.

I toss second cut hay or alfalfa hay on the ground in the run-- they pick out what they want and leave the big material.
