I don't vaccinate for anything. I don't use medicated feed either. Just my own personal preference.

Sounds is getting ready to lay her first egg, if she hasn't already. You should see one likely today, if not then in the next few days.

She's been laying for like 3 weeks, in this nest for just over a week. So far no egg today, and I found some shell of one of the chicken eggs I put in there. I'm wondering if she was trying to decide if she wanted to keep that nest or not. Hope so! I like to never found this one. Probably won't find the next. Lol

My turkey went to her nest yesterday, followed by my Tom guarding her, like usual. She was in there awhile then came out and wandered around a bit, then went back in it awhile, then wandered around a bit. She did this several times for hours!! Any idea why she would be?

She could be like my girls. Last year my 2 slate hens would skip a day & then give me 2 eggs each the next day. I'd get 1 in the morning from each & 1 in the evening from each. Usually they both did it on the same day, no eggs 1 day & 4 the next.

X 2...I just let my NPIP tester test for what they monitor & watch where I bring stock in from. I also quarantine everything that comes in.

Hi! I'm new to this thread. My wife is currently incubating turkey and goose eggs. She also is getting a couple goslings soon. Will the poults be okay to share a pen with the goslings when they out grow the brooder or should I build two enclosures? I could put the poults in with our silkies till they can handle the geese but I'm not sure how the rooster would like that. And I know our barred rock too won't have them at all.

I am heading south to pick up my 3 Bourbon Red hens tomorrow! YAY! He got a lot of replies (no surprise at $25 each), but I was first! WHOOT! Yea... I am just alittle excited!

Blech. No, I wouldn't recommend eating incubated eggs. Lol

I haven't; I was just confused.

I think you misunderstood lol. Once you buy them and crack one or 2 open to check fertility(if that's what you decide to do) if those don't look fertile you can cook them up. After being in the incubator they are not edible.

Oh, yes, I misunderstood. I thought you meant that if they didn't start developing in the incubator.

ya I think Uphill was talking about the eggs the little amish man has on craigslist... I havent gotten over there yet I can't bring myself to leave the house when its in the minus degrees, today is supposed to be in the 30's WOOT get the shorts out!

Yeah, I don't do negative temps!!!
I don't do shorts until it's like 50s, at least!!! lol

Still looks like a girl to me. I wouldn't worry about the beard. She still has no snood to amount to anything as well as the mohawk of feathers. Those are a better indicators.

That's a girl for sure. We have 2 hens with beards out of 6 hens total. And the Mohawk would depend more on your weather. Our girls were pretty bare-headed but when the weather got colder (actually quite cold for us being in southcentral-ish TN), our girls all started growing feathers on their heads.

I don't. I do use medicated feed on baby chicks though.
