Turkey Talk for 2014

I think my husband took over on my turkeys. He makes a special trip to the shed every day to get the egg/eggs - and if there is no egg, he goes back more than once to check. I had to threaten bodily harm the other day so I could finally collect an egg! I also noticed he walks around outside gobbling to the tom so he gobbles back. He also just goes and visits them and talks to the tom like they have a bromance going on or something. I'm getting a bit jealous. The turkeys are my thing! All the birds are!

Now I know what will be happening here in a few months! DH is mesmerized by the chickens. The turkey pen will be closer to the house, and have a bench next to it. I guess I can kiss the motorcycle goodbye!

First turkey poults ;D it is only day 26!!
Mine always hatch early too!

Looks like spring is in the air in my turkey pen too. As we were driving to dinner last night, I saw my tom on top of one of the hens trying things on for size..... Unfortunately my DSO was hungry, so we had to continue on and I didn't see if they sealed the deal or not.

I also have a RP hen that will squat whenever I get within 10 feet of her. But she wants nothing to do with the tom. Hopefully they will work that out too.

This morning I set up a private nesting area, put in some straw and added a couple wooden eggs. Hoping they will use it and I will see some eggs soon!
Rest assured, it sounds like he is making every effort, so I bet you will have eggs any day. My BR hen does seem more interested in my toms' "pretty boy" antics.
When I call him that, he gobbles for me every time

He was a 4H tom, so that may have been his name.

DH and I go out together to do chicken chores and feed treats together and gather eggs. We both pet the girls. My DH did not really care for the turkey much but he did like to gobble at them to get them going. lol So do some people going down the street! It's funny to see grown me stop to gobble at the turkey! DH said they are practicing for hunting.

I have had the trash pick up men stop and all walk over to my side of the road making noise to get the Toms to gobble. LOL.

AW don't be jealous or sad. I think its wonderful that your DH has taken a liking to your birds. I have 4chicken coops a duck house a turkey house and a goat house, not to mention all the brooders that's a lot of houses to get to everyday to do chores, my DH only makes it outside one morning a week on the weekend to help, I do all the rest and I do all the lock ups at night and collecting of the eggs. I wish my DH shared a little more interest in my birds because I love them and want him to love them too.
