I have a one year old Narragansett/Bourbon Red x turkey. She came here about a month ago and has been laying eggs. The 1st 6 I put in the school's incubator and all appear to have embryos growing. She now has 7 in a nest in her pen. How long should I wait to see if she will sit? I heard that young turkeys don't sit well. Or should I give them to my gold laced Wyandotte, who appears to be broody?

Most turkey will lay till they have a nice clutch of eggs 10-18 eggs before they will lay on them some less. But if she does come off the nest you could always either put them under a broody or put them in the bator.

Thanks. I myself don't have an incubator yet. Our local ag class has one and they were super excited to try and hatch them for me! We really don't even know if they would have been fertilized by the Bronze she was with at her past farm or if it's our Royal Palm. It will be interesting when they hatch, around May27th!

That was very nice of them to do that for you. I would let her lay her eggs and see what happens. If she does not lay then you can decide from there what you want to do.

I would only let her collect for about 10 days max. Once they get much past that fertility drops & a lot less hatch.

10-14 days is what I thought I read and we're at 12 days, 8 eggs now. I am not able to use the incubator for another batch, due to school ending, maybe I'll give it a day or 2 and then if she doesn't sit, then give to my broody chicken.
