I just had a go with it, it is more than likely fowlpox from misquitos. Even with me changing the water 3 times a week they are bad around here. It should go away by it's self in a few weeks. At least it's not wet pox!

Yours is or mine? I doubt a mosquito had anything to do with this. We have not had a mosquito around here in 5 1/2 months, unless they were wearing long johns and carried a snow shovel.

The pic @duluthralphie posted is most definitely not an illness of any kind...unless you consider hormones an illness. That is what happens when turkeys fight. They will literally pick each other's heads bloody if several gang up on 1. That is the result of toms fighting for dominance.

It took me a while to realize this, I was researching blackhead, Fowl pox, Frostbite, Scurvy and anything else I could think of that caused this. Then it dawned on me it goes away quickly and then reappears in another Jake. I have noticed it has tapered off now, I think they are getting an order figured out. I assume when 3 of them move away or go to freezer camp the fight will start al over...

That's exactly what is happening. I first ran into it with my hens. I added another hen to my trio and the 2 original hens ganged up on her. Within 3 days, her head was nothing but a huge scab (my ex was taking care of the birds at that time & failed to mention she was getting beat up until they almost killed her). Took about 2 weeks for her to heal & all the scabs to peel off. I have learned now that it is never a good idea to introduce a new bird by itself into an existing flock in a confined space. Your young boys are just vying for dominance. If this is all the worse it is, then they are fine.

When I first saw this I thought I had blackhead. BUT I had none of the other symptoms. That is when I found it travels from Jake to Jake, depending on which Jake is having his turn in the barrel. All the result of bad boy behavior and neck wrestling and snood pulling. It has actually gotten worse than this on some Jakes from time to time. It has never affected a turkey hen or chicken.

Looks like pox or scabs from being pecked.

Sorry, it looked like the pox I had just been dealing with. lol Glad it will heal quickly. I have some toms that look like a bloody mess and it is from fighting. My eyes are not that great so it is hard for me to see some things. And I am still learning myself. lol

No problem. Unless you have already seen it for yourself it can be really hard to know for sure what is going on.

No Kidding, Like I said I thought every nasty disease there is until I figured it out with help of some people n BYC.....Stupid silly birds!
