Sorry, it looked like the pox I had just been dealing with. lol Glad it will heal quickly. I have some toms that look like a bloody mess and it is from fighting. My eyes are not that great so it is hard for me to see some things. And I am still learning myself. lol

All I knew for sure was that it was_NOT_blackhead, lol.

Here is a turkey with blackhead:


Blackhead does_NOT_cause scabs, but sometimes it will cause their heads to turn blue/purple from lack of oxygen, which is where the term "blackhead" came from.

That is terrible. I noticed the poo right away too, everything said it would be ugly...

What I read was the first thing you would notice would be lethargic weak turkey...

Mine where anything but, they were hyper active fighting for hours on end... That poor turkey!

That's a picture I found and you can see how thin and weak the turkey is... I suspect that picture was taken in a lab right before it was euthanized. Turkey to the right is already deceased.

I use totes and buy the cheap sand from the lumber yard to use. I only use about 1" deep from day one. I put the food and water in dishes but it won't hurt the poults to eat the sand like it will if they eat shavings. I don't have any pics as I had to replace my computer last week my old one crashed and it is still at the geek squads store.
You can also use the rubberized shelf liner from the dollar general store for the first few days if you want. I use it in my bator for hatching.
It works better if you have chicks that are a few days old to teach the turkey poults to eat and drink.

I use sand, too. I use shelf liner. This time though, I'm using paper towels for now. The BBB's from the hatchery have such watery poop. It's firming up now. My birds that I hatch haven't been so wet. But I found I need to be careful with the shelf liner and feeding FF. They scratch it out and it caused some mold issues in the sand, under the liner. I caught it pretty fast, since I clean often, but it scared me. When I picked up the liner and saw it, they started grabbing and eating it. I got it out fast and no harm done. After that, I mixed dry feed into the FF so it wasn't so wet. I also started stirring the sand every day like using deep litter. No more problems.

I have the weirdest group of poults. They were shipped with 15 chicks, which stayed in my brooder for several hours, then were picked up by the woman who split the order with me. When they left, everyone was eating great. Then the poults were by themselves for about 5 days. My chicks hatched when the poults were 4 days old. I thought the chicks were a bit too small to handle the poults, so I put up a temporary plastic mesh divider in the brooder. All the poults do is pace the divider and try to get through the mesh. Sometimes they do get over it. They barely eat. I've lost one already. I tried letting them in with the chicks, but they peck their feet and wings. The chicks were huddled in the corner trying to get away. Today, I put up cardboard to block their view of the chicks. They are still obsessed to some extent, but have actually calmed down somewhat. They still aren't eating like they were. I wrapped the bowls in tin foil to entice them over, but they are still more interested in the divider and the chicks that they hear. I may need to try putting them in a dog crate (where in my house that would be that the dogs can't get to, I have no idea) but they will need to be in with the chicks/chickens eventually. Any ideas? I have one more batch of chicks due. I have my first pip now. The older chicks are 7 days older and the poults are11 days older. Only 4 of these chicks are mine and only 7 of 17 of the older chicks are mine. All the rest will be leaving soon (I hope). I wasn't expecting the poults to arrive so early and the hatchery never notified me until they had already shipped, so the timing wasn't the best.

One more thing. The poults are all under the heater, asleep. I think they are totally exhausted. As soon as the cardboard went up, a couple stopped and stood with their eyes closed. These are BBB. My other BBB and BR for that matter, never acted like this.

I just wanted to share some pictures of my beautiful Bourbon Red Royal PalmX. He had 2 brothers with him but they decided to attack me so they went to freezer. They were pretty but they weren't as pretty as him.
