Wednesday night I awoke to the sound of my one year old Turkey Screaming. I moved in here in February and my house came with 3 chickens and one turkey. They had been abandoned for several months and the coop was disgusting and dirty. I cleaned the coop and set up the yard. They have never slept in the coop, plus the coop is not secure, there are several ways out. Since I have a 10 ft fence around the perimeter I have always considered the yard safe. All the birds sleep on top of the coop and only use the coop when it rains or to lay eggs.
I heard her screaming and flapping, I jumped out of bed in a skimpy night set, unlocked my gate and caught a man chasing my bird around. I figured he grabbed her off the chicken coop. He saw me and said he was only trying to take a picture because he never saw one that close up. Turkey was wheezing and hyperventalating, running in circles. As I approached her she sat down and allowed me to pick her up and bring her in.
is it possible to retrain my birdies to sleep in their coop at night?
I prefer to steal my turkeys from attractive women in skimpy nightgowns rather them from crusty old farmers with shotguns.
Seriously, you're lucky you weren't raped & murdered. When investigating possible predators ALWAYS be well armed!
I just finished reading all the post up to here and I have to say that was lucky thief as you know I were heisting a bird it wouldn't some lady running out in some skimpy night gown it would be something much worse ....
I get my share of predators in the yard and have not shoot anything in hours ok yesterday a Bob-Cat but I was using leg traps that I got from my grandpa in the 60 the 1960 that is and he acquired them from a family member when he was a child but these traps are now illegal for some reason so artier much complain by dog owners to the cops I was told to pick up my toy's that I could only use box traps ...... Ok so it's a shoot gun or a .22 I can use I was told by the law personal and the Sheriff's department has nothing to do with live stock so they only come out to pick up body's and will not bother with taking reports from complainers when I use a Stage Coach 12 gauge with 3 1/2 inch shells wow I go out side with my socks on as I learned I could step in something and my side by side and I blast cats dogs Bob-Cats fox and being old and going blind I can tell ya all the birds stay together so it is the dark spots I shoot at as I do not get shapes to much anymore and last year I got over 16 Bob-Cats , 7 Fox and 2 box's 25 round ea. in just domestic animals so your thief was %$@* lucky he goy you because I am hard of hearing to boot .....

Arizona is one of them States where it is agents the Law to not have a fire arm correct or darn near .....
And with all seriousness Twinkkitten, I do agree with ChickenLegs13 you are very lucky you did not get hurt .....
