Turkey with swollen face

Yesterday when I was working in the yard I noticed one of my bronze turkey hens face was swollen. About a month or two ago all my birds caught some respiratory infection which I treated with some amoxicillin I had on hand. After about 10 days on it and some tlc everyone was feeling and looking much better. Every now and then I’ll hear a bird cough but everyone looks and acts healthy. Could the swollen face be related to the prior illness? It is very soft and feels like nothing but air behind it. She does sound a little raspy and will cough occasionally. Should I resume antibiotics?

The swollen face and the foam in the eye can be symptoms of mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) which is a chronic respiratory disease. Tylosin or Denagard would be better antibiotics to treat it. Symptoms can come back when stressed. The survivors are carriers for life. I would get Tylosin here, and dosage is 1 tsp per gallon for 5 days:

Here is some reading about MG:

Would the 99% tylosin be too strong for chickens and pigeons? Or will they be fine with that concentration as well?

I’ve been giving the Tylosin but haven’t seen any improvement. If anything her face is getting more swollen. Should I switch to denagard? Does it need to drained? What else can I do?

Both Tylosin and Denagard treat MG. MG in turkeys is most severe, and the air sacs can be affected. Are you giving the Denagard orally? I would do that in case she is not drinking enough, and didn’t get enough of the Tylosin. Is she eating and drinking? Pressing the sinus under the eye may help get some of the pus out. It can sometimes be seen in the roof of the beak. Usually, they should get somewhat better after a couple of days on the antibiotic. If not, see a vet.

No I haven’t been giving it orally. Just mixing it in her water. She has been eating and drinking like normal. How do I give it to her orally if it’s in powder form?

Can you post a picture of what you have? How much are you using in water? I am used to seeing Denagard 12.5% liquid, and dosage of that is 0.09 ml per pound of weight twice a day given orally. It is also given in the water.

I am giving her tylosin. If denagard would be better I can switch to that. The tylosin I have is from the link your provided me earlier and I’m following the dosage on that.
