The larger one looks like the ones I have, but in a plastic bag, on sale all the time for $1.50 for 100 at Harbor Freight Tools in Baton Rouge.Same colors probably. They have other colors too including white and clear, big rows of all different sizes and colors and some assorted, that's what I bought!:highfive:

I will check out Harbor Freight this week. There is one close by.

Yes you are right.

If anyone wants some of these zip ties and don't have a Dollar Tree in your area, PM me and let me know and I can pick some up for you and mail them out.
That is so nice of you Kuntrygirl! I also want to thank you for starting this kind of a thread for turkeys, so we can keep it going throughout the year. It's great and I am enjoying it so much and learning lots! Thanks!!!!

Lol. Next week is supposed to be nice. The past few days have been dreadful. Cold enough that my finger actually froze stuck to the combo lock on the bird room. That freaked me out a smidge. The birds are locked up,too cold for them to come out.

Beautiful poults!

I do see some lighter poults. That is a good idea including some in each other and having the buyers let you know about the sex.

40 to 50 hens !!!!???????????????

Let me know how that works for you.

I wanted to start culling the chicken hens, in the summer, because they went broody and hatched out so many eggs from our mixed flock, that are mutts. I wanted to go from 200 to 300 hens, they move around too much, being free range over 5 acres, that haven't kept a count on them, to about 25, but he now wants to keep 50, at least. I will have more eggs than I can use or sell, with that many and the turkeys too, and chickens eat a lot foraging less than turkeys!

Same here. I"m looking forward to the 78 degree weekend over here. I will be cleaning out the sheep pen and preparing for my NPIP on Monday morning. Not much to do since I did a lot of work that weekend I was telling ya'll about on the Louisiana thread.

OK

Thank you Celie. Everyone who is here and posting is responsible for keeping the thread going. I'm loving the discussion. I am also learning a lot. :)

I"m tired just reading about all of that culling. WHEW!!!

I can't wait to get my plucker made. My plucker maker will be here in about 30 days. :hit He has to get off from work. :hit

When I get that plucker, I will be one happy camper. I will be plucking away. :weee

I wanted to post a pic of the scale that I bought a few months ago. I use this scale to weigh eggs and babies. I won an auction on ebay and I paid $9.01 for it. It's a postal scale. It weighs up to 86 lbs. I think Celie has one similar to this as well. Celie may have bought hers for even less than I did. Correct Celie?

It doesn't get dark until 6:00 PM, so I want to race home to see if I can take some pics of my light colored girls and post tomorrow. It's been dark by the time I get home and they have already flown on top of the coop or in the pecan tree. :/

Does it weigh in grams?

Yes it does. That's what I love about it. It is very accurate. I can weigh the same thing 3 different times and it gives me the exact same weight each and every time.

Quote: Toe punch?

CHickens have a tiny flap of skin, duck like, between the toes. Using a punch, cut a circle of tissue out. THere is a formal system of punching for ID. I forgot to look at the turkeys today, but then I was rush rush dealing with frigid temps-- think the high today was 20. very low for us.
