I have two tom turkeys just coming to maturity. Today I saw one mating with one of my chickens. I have read that they can hurt a hen due to their larger size. My question is should I purchase a turkey hen to save my chickens or will the boys fight over a turkey hen? The turkeys are purely pets. Thanks.

One turkey hen would be overbred by the toms. Separate them from the chicken hens before they injure them.

They free range together so that's not possible. Thanks though.

Perhaps you could swap one of the toms for at least one turkey hen but they really do better with 4 to 5 hens per tom. If you don't do something, be prepared for dead chickens.

They'll crush the hens to death if you don't pen them up or get them some turkey hens, like 3 or 4 for two toms.

Getting a few hens seems like a good idea. I just have to find some. Thanks for the advice.
