New to raising chickens so very thankful that a community like this exists. I have 4 chicks that will be a week old tomorrow.
I have them in a cage in my garage with a heat source. Question: should I be turning the garage light off at night? There is no natural light in the garage so I suppose I could just turn the light back on at Sunrise.

My brooder is in my garage and there’s also a window.
I still keep the ceiling light on during the day though because it’s kind of dim in there.
Soon I’ll be keeping the heat lamp off too as the chicks will be completely feathered out and it’s not too cold at night.
Mine need to get used to the dark soon because they’ll go out to the coop.

I turned off the light first night, thats what happens in nature, everyone goes night-night at night! I did use the MHP and not a lamp however the little red light on the control of the heating pad offered a smidge of light......
