turning 8 mo on the 29th and NOT LAYING

My chickens are turning eight months. No eggs. At all. None. Zero. Zip. Nada. WHYYYYY

. I dont unstand why! Oh there are 2 silkies and 2 serama mutt things. Real cute tho... anyways I know its getting cold but i think 8 mo is really late. Whay do you think??????????????

Well, you are talking about breeds that have not been selected for egg production - so I am guessing that they will not start laying until the daylength increases significantly.

This would be my guess also. Some breeds just take longer I guess.

It took my Silkie a year and a half to start laying. We thought she was retarded, but now she's the only one still laying and does so reliably every other day. Of course she's a house chicken so has more light than the outdoor birds...

My 9-month old Ameraucanas still aren't laying and they're under lights 14 hours a day. I'm resigned to the fact that they may not lay until Spring.

Ok so i did some research and i found out tht silkies are very late bloomers and so are mutts. I also know a ladie who has silkies and hers didnt lay until seven months of age and they stopped laying in the winter. So this could possibly mean no eegs til spring
