Turning a garden shed into a duck house (I did it - I cut it up)

Love it!

I do have to give a shout out to BYC people.

I pretty much scope out just the duck, geese and Coop/Run sections (and occasionally a few others), and the 3 mains sections I hit gave me all the info I needed to tackle this job.

I was terrified to cut into that shed.....I did not want to ruin it.
I asked all kinds of questions, requested pictures, and asked advice.

So, most of the design came from this place.

Putting the flooring down, ideas of vents and that water structure was 100% from here.

Although I was still a bit timid to cut it up, I had the confidence to do it (or should I say - have my husband do it

)

Thank you all for your advice and encouragement

I'll try to remember to post pictures when it is all painted, and when we get the run done.

btw, healthy tid bit of info: 2 week old ducklings DO NOT stay in a chain link dog kennel....they squeeze right through the links and run to where you are working.....

Thanks all. I'm actually enjoying it a lot too.

I keep going out there and looking at what we have done and am pretty pleased....that mini door on the North side just tickles me! I can't wait until the husband figures out a porch for it.

And I think I want a "window" box for that side also (I'd just put fake plants in it) I think that would be cute!

The ducklings seem to like it so far, I have all the vents and windows open, and it seems comfortable in there, even though the shed is in 100% direct sunlight. (Need to plan some trees!

Outstanding job! Love the little door.....it tickles me too!

My DH has just started my third one. Mine don't get to be cute....sniff, whine.....even though he is a carpenter! All of my coops have been made of reclaimed materials. An old pole barn fell down and we have just about used up all the tin on the three coops. I am good with it and the chickens make it through the winter just fine. He says we are NOT going to fill the entire yard with coops and runs....what is he talkinga about????

I like the lay out and design. I only have a couple things to ad. rubber coated cords. the ducks will strip them down to the copper inside given the chance. the geese I have do the same thing too. they just ate my screen out of the barns' hand door. once they caught a corner going they went ape on it. the ducks love the caulking along the outside wall of the barn where the sheet metal touches the kicker boards. they have striped the majority of loose caulk off the barn. if you put a board over the plug & cord hanging down that should protect that. the caulk is another matter. if they get to nibbling I don't know what you can do to stop them other then let them finish and not redo it.
