Turning eggs

During natural incubation a hen will turn (or maybe shuffle is a better verb) her eggs 3 to 5 times per HOUR. I don't ask that you believe me but I do recommend that you do what i did which was to sit quietly by the nest and listen to her moving her eggs using her feet, bill, and body and make a tally mark for every time an egg is re-positioned. It is very difficult to move one egg without moving them all to one degree or another.

Oh I believe you! I know my incubator was set to move them every 45 minutes. I moved mine every 3 or 4 hours, day and night. Guess that wasn't quite enough.

I asked because the chicks appear very yellow-ish in the picture. Could be the camera flash. Lav orps should be a bit darker at hatch, and legs be darker too. But after looking again, I bet its just the lighting in the pic.

One of them does have alot of yellow. They're English Lavender Orpingtons, if that makes a difference. I guess I'll have to wait till they feather out to see if they're a true lavender. It would be my luck if they weren't tho. Lol. I still think they're pretty.

Could just be time of year, or parentage. I'm sure it'll grow out fine. I also have a thing for pretty blue chickens.
I actually just sold the last of my lav orp flock, but I have their last 13 eggs in my incubator right now.

Oh my GOSH!! How very beautiful! That's so what I'm talking about!! My dream chicken. Lol.
