Twisting off spur, how much "torque"

Well like I said he normally pops them off fighting through the wire with my other roo. I don't have him anymore so the spurs has grown really long. One turns upward so I'm sure it pokes him in the rear when he roosts. When he stands, they cross behind him. He's 7 years old and I've never had to even file them before. He's the sweetest game roo and I don't worry about him using them on me but I can image he's uncomfortable and so are the girls. Over the years he's popped off probably about 3 or 4. It's always kept them nice and short. Thats why I was surprised DH couldn't twist them off easily. How hard did Smokey have to hit the wire to pop them off before? We did trim them but they are still long. I've never seen any blood in the coop after he's done it himself and it never appeared to bother him.

how much do u file them for show? i DO NOT want to twist them off cuz i heard theres alot of blood involved!

I just file them enough to take off the sharp point.

There is not a lot of blood. The new spurs just look red, no dripping blood or anything.

Did you apply heat first??? Some techniques suggest holding a bic lighter to the spur for a few seconds, or a really hot baked potato. You just have to be careful not to touch the roo's leg with the potato or the lighter, cause you can burn him badly. The spur, on the other hand, won't be damaged unless you take a torch to it or heat it for way too long.
