Two coop location choices - which do I pick?

Since it sounds like other than sun/shade and wind, all things are otherwise equal, I'd pick shade over sun/shade. The wind blocking provided by the barn is a plus, and chickens will do fine in shade - you would find that many of them choose to remain in shade if given their choice between the two.

If the south side is well shaded in summer with deciduous trees, I'd pick that side.
Either way, the gravel is concerning for these reasons....

.... It's not only hard on the chickens' feet .... but the poop will filter down in and remain there permanently.
