So, I have a baby chick who was born two days ago and since she doesn't seem like she's been well at all. I just discovered today her yolk sac is still attached and it seemed to make sense as to why she's been acting slow. For the past couple of days her eyes are for the majority of the time closed, she doesn't eat, needs help to drink water, and can't walk. Maybe this is normal two day old chick behavior, but I'm just looking for reassurance because she still does have her yolk sac attached and from what I've researched the chick's sac should already be absorbed. I'm just wondering if it should be removed, or if I should wait it out, or if the chick will eventually pass? Thanks for any help.

Can you post a picture of what youryo seeing?

Did she have splayed legs as well and that's why you have the splint on her?

A small bit of yolk like that should just dry up and fall off; you definitely don't want to remove it. Does her vent look clear and not pasted up?

ya that's why the splint is there. Also yes, I just cleaned her vent because I almost confused the yolk sac for pasty butt. That lead to further confusion because she had symptoms related to pasty butt, but with a million google searches later I settled that it's her yolk sac. Thank you for the help. :)

Poor thing is having some troubles!

The yolk sac will dry up and fall off on its own. For now to give her a boost you might try giving her some poultry nutri drench and also adding it to their water.

I agree that small bit of yoke should fall off..back to the splint..if it is splay legged. It might be uncomfortable and/or in a bit of pain, and having difficulty moving around.

ya she seems to be waddling around a lot better than she had a couple days ago. We plan on seeing on how she's improved tomorrow and hopefully she can do without the splint.
