I have a flock of 7 chickens, it’s mid- winter here in Maine. I have one Easter Egger that lays greenish eggs. I have noticed her laying two eggs a day then taking a rest day, repeat. Yesterday, I went out to the coop to change their water (I had been out there an hour earlier with no eggs in the coop) and there were two greenish eggs... and they were both warm. How can one chicken lay two eggs at the same time?!

I have an EE doing that currently. The cause is from releasing two ovum from the ovary at the same time, just as a human might do which would produce twins. Sometimes the yolks end up as a double yolk egg, and more rarely, the result is two distinct eggs laid the same day.

WOw, so I walked in in my Easter Egger laying today, and sure enough! One right after the other. I have another chicken that lays double yokes often. I myself have twins... what is in our water!! Lol

You're lucky your hen has her act together. This morning my two-egg layer laid her first egg from the roost and it ended up on the poop board, broken in a pile of sloppy poop. The second one ended up in the run and was consumed by opportunists.

Awww, she will figure it out soon. This same hen used to lay all over the place too. Now she is a pro! Lol

THis chicken is amazing. This week, her new trick is three eggs at a time. The last egg is pretty small, but what in the world!!
