TWO eggs two yolks each AND TWO EMBRYOS each moving at day 14!

Hi did you receive my reply? Especially about putting into another Bator?
Shoot, I am sorry, I did not get this in my alerts!!
Hi Wyandottes7, thenk you for your input! I have another question and do I hit "conversation" to post it out there? They were all alive and wiggling the eggs but when I put them all in lockdown there none are moving at all on day two and don't know if normal. I'm getting nervous. I canceled them just be fore. I want to candle them I'm so scared. Is it normal for them to be dorment now? My others hatched when I put cover on at lockdown. So I don't know if this is normal.
Regards-the newbie
Did you move the double yolkers to another incubator? Are the eggs mentioned in the above post the 'other' eggs that you were incubating? What day count are you on now with the eggs that are in lockdown? I would not worry about them being quiet, they have a lot of work to do between now and hatching. Don't worry, there is not much to be done now but to wait.....:pop

You will more than likely have to help them hatch as they won't be able to get into the correct position to hatch by themselves. It will be a judgement call on your part when you step in to help them. Read through this article to give you an idea of what you'll need to do:

Thank you how would I know the timing to start, like the 21st day before they die in egg? One has pipped early today but nothing since then. I don't want them to die and have been wondering it about all my chic one other piped before the dbl chic egg and no other activity so thought might have to do with humidity. I Dont know but I def would help the dbl egg just doing know what I would call the last hour do you? Again thank you!

If you are concerned about the other eggs, then I would move the double yolkers to a separate incubator, just to be safe. Though, with so few days left before hatching and both embryos still left alive, I wouldn't be overly concerned about the eggs becoming rotten and exploding.

I definitely would not kill the double yolker embryos at this point, in the interest of both ethics and curiosity. People have had them successfully hatch before; not all double yolker incubations end in disaster. Do keep in mind that there is a chance that not all the chicks will survive, as hatching double yolkers is risky, but at least give them a chance to hatch.

Please keep us updated and good luck with your hatching! It is rare to see double yolkers make it this far and it would be interesting to see if they manage to hatch and thrive.
Hi there is me, you also send me a post about my dbl chic egg .and others not zipping but the dbl chic egg has and another this morning, nothing since. I had to change incubators due to losing heat but they piped long after the change. I dont know if this time is normal it day 19.My last hatch hatched the day I locked down! Also, someone told me ill need to help the egg with the two but when would I know when to begin that procedure and I only know not to break membrane and follow air sac.... ? I heed your opinion and advise if you don't mind. I might have left something out due to stress, can you see my replies when two people comment on same post if so I said some things to a Joe/John I believe under the post 'lockdown and no movement' again thank you for your time.

Are you saying that the double yolked egg has begun to zip? Usually, it is not real long from the start of zipping to hatch. If it sits for long partially zipped, that would be an indication that it would be okay to help.
No I said it popped and someone said I might have to help them out. My response is how do I know WHEN to attempt that?????? All I know is to follow air sac n don't brake membrane but when is the time to say this is last resort because they both were very much alive and same size at lockdown.I'm so lost.

There is no easy answer to that question and it's always a judgement call when to step in and help. You could make a safety hole in the air cell as I can't see an air cell having enough oxygen in it to sustain two chicks until they are able to make an external pip (if they are in a position to do that). :fl

Alright, so the egg pipped on day 19. This is not unusual. Also, it can take quite a while for a chick to go from sitting quietly in its pipped shell while the egg yolk is being absorbed and the vascular system is switching from the veins of the membrane to the veins of the chick itself. Twenty four hours is not unusual. Since you know that the chick may need help, it would be wise to keep an eye on that egg, watching for movement, listening for peeping, and reading what you can on assisted hatches meantime. There may come a point wherein you realize that the chick has no chance to hatch itself and that neither you nor it have anything to lose by your interference. When I come to that place, I cautiously begin the process of letting that baby out. There are very good threads here on this site that describe the process. Sometimes this works out very well because the chick's problem was external to the chick-it was in a bad position and could not zip, for instance. Other times, the chick itself has a problem, such as slipped tendon or another type of lameness that has prevented its hatching on its own. In that case, the chick usually will not survive and may need to be put down. As the previous poster said, "it is a judgement call." A safety hole is not a bad idea, just as has been suggested in the post above this one.In view of the fact that you may have a weak chick on your hands, be sure to have some helpful items such as Nutri Drench, Chick Saver, B12, iron free infant vitamin liquid-whatever you can come up with to make a solution that will help the chick come round quicker. Good luck with it. I really hope it works out for you and the chicks.
