Two Feet Of Show And The Chickens Are Thriving!

All things considered, sounds like you're doing pretty well, DC.

Best of luck on the water pump. THAT would be the killer for most people.

Hang in there.

Mine are doing great down here in the valley too even though we don't have as much snow or as low as temps as you do in the gorge. I am still getting 7-8 eggs a day and they are very content. My coop is unheated as well and I do the same, swap out the frozen water all day long. They were even eating the frozen lettuce last night. They want out in the snow so badly (they do not free range) now that they are over their princess-like behavior!

Redfeathers & All Chook Up -- thanks for thinking of us

I just saw a trickle of water coming from the faucet, so maybe the plumber is finally getting something going up at the pump! (the pump brings water from the well to the cistern, then it is gravity fed to the house). If not, my husband swears he will get out for fresh water.

I too am running out of chicken feed. I-84 requires chains from Hood River to The Dalles (we are in between) and we can't get out even if we had chains. I am going to check with a neighbor to see if she'll let me buy some from her. I think it is going to start dumping more and more out here.... every news report is saying that's how it looks right now for The Gorge.

Everyone else doing good and with chickens doing well.... I am super happy to hear it. I was really worried about them, but they are hanging in there fine.

No heat, some sub-zero temperatures, more than two feet of snow from one storm, the birds are still laying real well, and NO they don't like the snow!

They won't come out even to look at it. I leave their door open thru the day and they get upset just seeing a little white stuff.

This should change over time - I mean, we even had some sunshine today. (But, it never stopped snowing . . .

I know that snow and cold without water can be really difficult. Here's wishing you the best of luck on the repairs.

Thanks, Steve. I leave my chicken door open all the time, regardless of temp, and they are still doing their business. It just makes me happy

The pump, on the other hand, may have a second chance as we found an electrician to come out tonight. Wish us luck!
