Somebody in my coop started crowing this morning. We have 8 chickens. Four are older and definitely hens, so they are out of trouble. Four are new additions, and we don't know who the culprit is as they won't crow when we are looking.

This is my most likely suspect. Our 8-9 week old Mille Fleur. Her wings are clipped, but the comb is quite prominent and I think I see saddle feathers and she shape of the neck feathers make me suspicious.

Any help?

I'm not very familiar with that breed but from the size and color of that comb at 8-9 weeks old I'd say you definitely have a cockerel on your hands.

That comb testifies to him being a male. Are roosters illegal in your area?

Saddle feathers don't come in until closer to 12 weeks the very earliest I've seen them starting is 10 weeks.

But YES that is a cockerel. :)

What do you mean the wings are clipped? Clipped wings done correctly should not be visible.

Definitely a cockerel and it’s probably him practicing that crow  In my experience with them they seem to crow earlier than the other breeds that are in the brooder with them. They also get huge combs really quickly. He’s definitely a handsome little dude though. If you handle him constantly he won’t give you any trouble, they’re pretty docile birds.
