two of my hens are sleeping in the trees

I hope that she will be ok.

It's not the cold that's the big deal. It's the fact that sooner or later, something will find your chickens in the tree and have themselves a late-night snack. When I first started chicken keeping, I had hens that roosted in the trees. It was great for awhile. I didn't see what "the big deal" was either. Until I started finding their headless bodies in the driveway. Our resident GHO finally discovered them. In a week, I had no more chickens.

Sorry to hear that but I'm glad you posted this information. You're right. It's not the cold it's the cold killers.

will she die if she fell off though? and if she falls off there is other places to roost but not in trees

I recently clipped my Spitzhauben's wings after fetching them out of a tree in the dark. It doesn't hurt them, and you only need to clip one wing to unbalance them.
