Two pronunciation questions

Old thread, but still relevant. So how do you pronounce Marans? Like MARE-uns? or Mer-ANS? I asked a chicken breeder if she had any, calling them MARE-uns, and she finally said "Oh, Marandas! Nope, don't have any" I'm pretty sure that's not the right pronunciation, but I don't know what is. Lots of chickens get regional pronunciations, I think, due to the original seller pronouncing it wrong, and it gets passed down. Like Domineckers.

Mah- ranz (emphasis on the ranz) is what I have heard.
