Don't answer the nuts part!

Now that my DH has his GSD and all is well in that dept., I still want my pup. I would like a great pyrenees pup, but have also considered another GSD.
We aren't working with the pup on chickens yet. He's seen them twice. Ignored them once and wanted to play with them once. So for right now while everything is new to him we are just avoiding the chickens.
I figure if I'm housebreaking one, I might as well be housebreaking two. Let them learn with and from each other.
However, if I get a great pyr. I want to expose him to the chickens early. Ideally as adults, the GSD would be for my protection and the GP would be for the chickens protection.
Is it possible to train them each for their own task at the same time? Or should I wait until puppy #1 is trained to his task before I get a GP and train him for his?
Does any of this make sense?

I'm from a serious professional dog training background and I hope I'm not coming across as hard line and tedious.

I had a GSD b*tch from german lines with schutzhund training background for many years. We didn't get her until she was 9mos old and she had been kept in a kennel all her life and was very uncivilized when we first got her. She ended up being a great dog after about a year of hard work with her. Definitely a diamond in the rough.

Yes you can have and train two puppies at the same time. Don't let them play much with each other, better yet don't let them play together at all. You don't want them bonding with each other but with you.

I, honestly think it would be a good idea. It might also help with the problem of your hubby's baby trying to bond with you instead of him.

I say GO FOR IT!

I have to ask to all you GSD folks - why does the breed have "dog" after it? I've never thought about it before but it seems so odd to me...and redundant. Wonder if there are other breeds that are named like that? I have Great Danes and a Bouvier...would seem funny to call them Great Dane Dogs and Bovier des Flanders Dogs....

I guess you can be a German Shepherd with a German Shepherd Dog. Can't a shepherd be a person, too? Maybe its just the teutonic mentality.

Shiba Inu and Tosa Inu mean Shiba Dog and Tosa Dog. I think the AKC finally canged the names to Shiba and Tosa after somebody caught on, but I could be wrong (imagine!).

I have a Rottweiler, a PittyPit, and a Rat Terrier mix growing up together. 2, 4, 6 months. It's a nightmare but we love them. 2 is do-able. 3 is insane. Then again, I am insane.

I'm having one of those days where they're all outside, all day -- they ate ALL of my shoes while I was sleeping. Then they broke open the garbage everywhere on my clean couch. I cried when I woke up. heh

Wynette, maybe that is where the teutonic mentality comes in? IDK. GSD is just the official AKC name chosen by the GSD club of America.
