Two questions about parasites

Well, I have two issues facing my flock right now, so I'll start with the one about dewormers.

I dewormed my chickens about one week ago using Wazine 17. I had thought that I could use the eggs after two weeks, but a re-check of the label indicates that it shouldn't have been used on laying hens. Well, the damage is done, so to speak. Is it possible (or advisable) to just start eating the eggs again after two weeks or should I wait longer? I can't imagine NEVER using eggs from my girls again, but I'm not sure how long I should hold off on eating them. Does anyone know what can be done in a situation like this?

Also, I've been struggling on and off with a louse problem for quite some time now. I've been using permethrin powders for a while but at this point I'm feeling like all I'm doing is creating permethrin-resistant lice. Are there any other effective, non-permethrin type products on the market besides DE?

There are no approved wormers for layers. For wazine there are many threads on BYC that mention tossing eggs for a couple of weeks, and one person said they spoke with a company rep??? who told them 17 days. But that was unofficial because it isn't approved.

In order to break the large roundworm cycle you must retreat in 30 days according to the Wazine bottle. If you aren't dealing with large roundworms then Wazine is ineffective.

Some vets will do a fecal float test for worms for a small fee (false negatives are possible).

Now let's deal with the delousing.

You absolutely MUST retreat every week (some say 2 weeks for lice) to kill the hatching eggs. I have read that every week is best so none slip by. If you are truly dealing with just lice and not mites, then unrefined coconut oil has been said on BYC to dissolve the nits after the bugs are dead.

The wazine label states that there's a 14 day withdrawal for slaughter. If the chicken is good to eat after the 14th day, so are the eggs. I've eaten the eggs after the 14th day after using wazine, still here typing. Use sevin dust to dust your birds. Then repeat dusting them in 7-10 days. Same with the inside of your coop.

Thank you everyone for the answers regarding the Wazine. I'll toss the eggs for 17 days just to be on the safe side.

Regarding the lice, I have been trying to treat them by redusting after a week, but it never seems to work. The lice will go away for a while, weeks or even months, before everyone is scratching themselves silly all over again. Is it possible that wild birds keep getting them reinfested? I often see small sparrows, chickadees, etc either perching on the fence or sometimes pecking around in a lonely corner of the run.

In any case, I'll try the Sevin powder and see if that can finally solve the problem.

Yes wild birds bring in lice and mites. That is where they come from. I treat my birds with dust every 4 months, repeating in 7 days.
