Two questions for gun control people

Bird shot seems like a good option provided that it also does the intended job. I suppose that an intruder with blood all over his face and torso would conclude that it had.

All of our walls, interior and exterior, are concrete and steel so full penetration isn't a fear. Missing chunks and blood all over the place would freak out the Mrs. I want to avoid causing death if possible because the belief in ghosts is prevalent here.

Loaded but not pumped seems like a fair compromise. A loaded revolver with the chamber open might too.

I always advocate buckshot, simply because it does the same job as birdshot, but better. What are the odds of a criminal being on really strong drugs in Thailand? That would impact my choice. A guy who is extremely high will likely not feel the birdshot, so you have to injure him very, very badly. I've heard stories of militant addicts that took dozens of rounds from a 9mm before dropping. Shot placement, of course, is everything. With your average criminal, though, I don't see a problem with birdshot - taking dozens of high-speed pellets to the torso tends to make one reconsider their decisions. If I were you, though, I'd keep a round of buckshot in behind the birdshot, in case it doesn't work.

That's the way we keep our shotgun, loaded without a round in the chamber. My dad found a clever way to keep it hidden but within easy adult reach for the occassions when we have our younger cousins over. I just disassemble and hide my guns.

The drug of choice here is yaba which, I believe, is meth. It's more likely that intruders would use for Dutch courage the local strong gut rot spirit, lao khow, made from rice.

I'm not yet sure what choice of shot we have. Guns and ammunition are imported from the US and Europe so the available range might be limited.

The risk of a determined break in is limited as things stand at present. However, there are signs that the recession is finally reaching these shores and people are losing their jobs. We want to be prepared for a possible increase in the rate of burglaries by those desperate for items of value that can be sold. They won't find much here unless they get into the safe but our house is such that they might assume otherwise. A lady living alone in a nearby village woke one night with an intruder's hands around her throat. She managed to scream loudly and neighbours came to her aid. That and the latest massacre of our chickens by dogs finally prompted my wife to agree to an upgrade of our self-defence equipment to include a gun or two.

I have got to get me one of these.

Dewalt's answer to home protection that doesn't require a registration or license. This nail gun can shoot a 16-D nail through a 2x4 at 200 yards and incase of a home invasion well you can NAIL THEIR *** to the wall. Im not saying it wont kill the perp but they wont get away. You can also help build a friends fence 2 blocks away while sitting in your front lawn. This is truly how you adapt and overcome so Thanks Dewalt.

I do not have the time to read through every post here. The Assault weapons ban is a big issue because, for example, a lot of people use the AR-15 for hunting because it is an outstandingly accurate weapon and pretty easy to fire. Example, on the show American Hoggers they use an AR on a couple episodes to bring down some hogs. So, for those who condescendingly say that hunting rifles are "ok", well, what about the AR-15 which is commonly known and marketed as the "Bushmaster". Should we outlaw them because they are the civilian (semi-auto) version of the M-16? Many people who own assault rifles use them in target shooting and shooting sports. What gets me is that the overwhelming majority of gun owners are good, responsible and generally well trained people when it comes to their guns. The age old statement comes true once again. The more guns laws we pass the harder it is for good people to get guns. Bad people will always get guns.

By the way, if we think banning guns is the path to less violence, we couldn't be more wrong. This vid is well worth watching. It shows that while the US has more guns per capita than anyone the UK (and other countries) are far more violent.

I think Moe, Larry and Shemp have the patent on this.

They were re-canning a back of a couch and used a gun with tacks in it to fasten it.

Also in the Lethal Weapon movie Danny Glover's character Murtaugh uses a nail gun to the forehead to take down a perp and the says "nailed him".
